Poteen

Ch Pendragon Magic Elixer HSAs

On the journey to Kentucky, to visit Quazar, Bob and I heard a new song (actually it's a very old song) in the praise of Irish homemade whiskey. The lyrics hit a chord with us and we started playing around with names, deciding upon "Poteen" - pronounced po-cheen.

Little did we know how well that the bundle of pure energy we chose to keep would live up to his name. He's got the rich color of a good whisky, a smooth fluid gate and a delightful temperament with just enough 'bite' to add spice to life.

It has been the hardest thing to sit back and watch this boy grow into himself - trying not to make too much of him yet thinking that he's turning out pretty good. He has a nice square body, a lovely side-gait and clean strides coming and going. He looks to have taken the best his mom and dad had to offer and put them together in a joyous package.

We started his show career, thinking only to get some points on him before Sally was to have her knees replaced. But he took off, starting with BOS at the Rocky Mountain Supported show in August and finishing his championship in October - 9 shows in all. Along that short path he also earned 2 Puppy Group I's and an adult Adult Group IV. Now for him to grow up!!

Meanwhile he is working in obedience and agility, but it is in herding that this boy has started to shine. We were lucky to have Cappy Pruett move into our area and decide to take on our boy. In a very short time Cappy had him ready for his PT, which they earned at the 2003 Belgian Tervuren National Specialty. Poteen continues to excel and has taken on Cappy as a co-owner.

Things really got exciting as Poteen moved into Started. He and Cappy earned the title in 4 trials, taking High in Trial twice, and Reserve High in Trial on the other leg... and that time they tied the high score, losing out on the tie breaker! More to come...

And remember...

So stick to the craythur the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord, 'tis no wonder if lightning and thunder
Weren't made from the plunder of poteen me boys.
